Hi, we are
Duvan, Jeison, and Brayan and we blog about our experiences as language
learners. We are all currently studying for our Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign
Languages with an Emphasis in English at the Distrital University in Bogotá. We feel that we have made good progress in our
language-learning journey so far.
We believe
that sharing our experiences can help other language learners, so we decided to
start this blog. We will be talking about our successes and challenges, sharing
with you different resources that we have been using during our process, and giving
you some tips we consider relevant and necessary to learn a language.
We hope our readers will find our posts helpful and inspiring because we think
that learning new languages is a great way to connect with other people and
cultures. Thanks for reading!
Duvan Estiven Mora Castañeda
My name is
Duvan Mora, and I am 20 years old. I am currently studying for a Bachelor's
Degree in Foreign Languages with an Emphasis in English at the Distrital
University Francisco Jose de Caldas. I am in my sixth semester of study. I have
been studying English for over three years and it has not been an easy process.
However, I have made good progress in learning the language. I believe that
anyone can learn a foreign language if they are willing to put in the effort.
It is not an impossible task.
When I
started this career I had few knowledge about this language, even, I did not
know how the verb "to be" works. I was really frustrated because I could notice
that most of my classmates had a good proficiency in English or much better
than mine, so, learning English became a challenge for me. I began to research
about this language and to study it with an autonomous work. My professor and
partners helped me to practice English. Now, I can enjoy movies, music, and
some books in English, and I am also happy to teach English in my practicums. Of
course, I have to keep working out and learning this language.
Jeison David Arango Vargas
My name is Jeison Arango and I am 20 years old. Like my classmates, I also studied a Bachelor's Degree in Foreign Languages with an emphasis in English at the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas and I am in my sixth semester.
Brayan Eduardo Ossa Rengifo
My name is Brayan Ossa, I am 26 years old. I am an undergraduate student and I am currently doing a B. A. in modern languages. I chose a B. A. in modern languages because I think that communication is a relevant aspect as regards knowing people around the world. The possibility of knowing other cultures is another facet that enhances my interest in acquiring a second language as well, among other benefits and advantages.
Furthermore, I long to become a professor and help students to see education and knowledge as a way of progress that nurtures society. I love teaching. I think knowledge enriches the soul. Acquiring knowledge and giving that knowledge to others through teaching provides an escape from ignorance. Ignorance is not a virtue. Moreover, one and perhaps the main reason for my philosophy of life and teaching is my personal belief in people as worthy and special beings. That is, each person has intrinsic moral value. They must not be objectified or worst than that treated as garbage. They deserve respect. I believe each person is a moral and intelligent agent with a particular purpose in this world. And I want to help students to know their own purpose and to reach it.
