When it comes to classics, few novels are as well-known or as widely-read as George Orwell’s 1984. Published in 1949, the book is set in a dystopian future where the government controls everything and citizens are kept in line through a strict system of surveillance and propaganda.
The book is made up of three parts, each of which focuses on a different character. In the first part, we meet Winston Smith, a man who is struggling against the system. In the second part, we meet Julia, a woman who is also trying to fight the system. In the third and final part, we meet O’Brien, a man who represents the government.
